UNACCOMPANIED MINOR ASYLUM SEEKERS IN GERMANY

Every year, thousands of children under the age of 18 who are not accompanied by a parent seek asylum in Germany and many other countries. Even if these children survive the journey to seek asylum, their problems do not end there. Once they reach their destination, many of them are registered as missing children. These children are targeted by criminal organisations. Prostitution and drug trafficking are just two of the many areas in which these children are particularly valuable to them.
This report addresses the challenges faced by children seeking asylum in Germany.
It was also presented as a paper at the International Children’s Rights Symposium organised by Crossborder Jurists in Cologne in December 2024.
